Different lives,
Different options.
Puppies are not one size fits all and neither are we.
We offer families various ownership types so you can pick the best fit.
Traditional Pet Ownership
This option is going to cover the majority of what families are looking for. Full AKC registration, no co-ownership, and a strict no-breeding contract. We encourage our owners to keep their male dogs intact for the lifetime of the dog, but at least until growth plates close at approximately 24 months of age. We recommend that females similarly be kept intact until 24 months of age as well, unless the owner is in a situation where they are unable to keep their girl separate from intact males. After 24 months of age, we recommend all non-breeding females be spayed to prevent pyometra and reproductive cancers.
Show/Breeding Prospects
This option is for families and individuals that are interested in contributing to the Pumi community by either exhibiting and/or breeding their dog. We sell show dogs only to homes that are willing to work closely with us as a mentor to help guide them through this new world. We primarily consider letting these dogs go only to trusted breeders or to those individuals that express a strong desire to help preserve the breed. We expect these families to be exceptionally committed, as this breed cannot afford to lose high quality dogs to homes that are not dedicated to improving the breed. Too many important dogs have been lost to homes that have lost interest. It is very rare to find those who desire to strive for excellence, but for those that do we share only the best of pedigrees and dogs. We are more than willing to work with international owners seeking to grow the breed in their country. This includes locations such as Australia.
Stewardship Homes
This option is for families and individuals that are interested in contributing to the Pumi community but are not interested in personally showing or breeding. We will occasionally consider this option for those puppies that we believe have such great potential that we cannot afford to let go from the gene pool. We are able to offer this for both male and female puppies and it works in the form of a co-ownership. All breeding expenses would be at our cost. This arrangement requires the individual/family to be willing to work with us closely to monitor the health, structure, and temperament of the puppy. For males, we would reserve the right to collect/ship/freeze semen and use them for live cover breedings. For females, we would borrow them to use in our program to produce a litter. This is a great arrangement for those that want to contribute, but have no desire to whelp a litter in their own home. These arrangements allow for the new owner to have the highest quality dog we are able to provide. Priority is given to those who reside relatively close to our location in Michigan.
Adult Dogs/Retired Show Dogs
This option is for families and individuals that love the breed, but are not interested in the commitment it takes to raise a Pumi puppy. It is not very often that we have older dogs available, but on rare occasions we may have pets returned to us or that do not pass their health tests and are no longer part of our breeding program. Often this requires a longer wait, but we maintain a separate Waitlist and will connect you with other breeders in the US should we become aware of a situation that may be of interest to you.
