Lifelong Breeder Support System
When you buy a puppy from us, we offer support for you, your family, and your puppy for the life of your dog. We put an unbelievable amount of effort into every puppy and stand behind our program 110%. Even if everything is going perfect at home, we would greatly appreciate it if you could keep us updated on how your puppy is doing. Our contract requires that you must return your puppy to us if you are unable to keep them for any reason. We will take back any dog at any age for any reason, even if the circumstance is not explicitly covered in your guarantee.
We are happy to offer any training, grooming, showing, or health advice at any time. If you need help, please let us know! If there’s something that we don’t know, we will find out for you. In 20 years of dog ownership, it’s very rare for us to encounter something new. We have co-breeders, owners, and knowledgeable dog friends across the country that are more than happy to help new owners even if they do not own the same breed as them.
Pre-paid AKC Registration
We register every single puppy that we produce with the American Kennel Club. We prepay your puppy’s registration fee when we register the litter. In order to work towards earning our AKC Breeder of Merit, 100% of our puppy’s must be registered to qualify—no exceptions! We will give you a list of registered names to pick from and work with you to choose something that makes you happy. This has no bearing on what call name you ultimately choose for your puppy. We will finalize the registration when your contract is signed on Puppy Go-Home day!
Pre-paid AKC Reunite Microchip with Lifetime Enrollment
We microchip every puppy with an AKC Reunite Microchip prior to them leaving our house. We pay for lifetime enrollment of the microchip in the AKC database, so you never have to worry about remembering to pay a yearly fee. With the enrollment, Nixie Pumi is listed as the locked primary contact on your microchip. This is to ensure that if your puppy ever ends up lost in a shelter they are able to be recovered. Your chosen information will be entered as the secondary contact which you will be able to update as needed. We would never take possession of your puppy from you in the case of an accident. This is to ensure that if an owner surrenders their puppy to a shelter without contacting us or without our consent, we will be able to save them. If your puppy’s microchip every stops working, we are happy to replace the microchip for you at no cost. Too many dogs end up in shelter with microchips that have not been activated. This enrollment guarantees that your puppy can always be found!
Optimal Selection Genetic Panel
We complete an Optimal Selection Genetic Panel on every puppy prior to them leaving our home. Sometimes the lab can delay results, so we may need to send the report to you after Puppy Go-Home Day. We test all our breeding dogs so we know what we what puppy’s will carry, but this ensures that we have a large database of genes and traits to references in our rare breed. The Optimal Selection Panel tests for 270+ genetic health risks and over 50+ heritable traits. This panel normally costs $130 but we include it with every puppy!
Veterinary Care
We do not remove front dewclaws on our puppies, but may remove back dewclaws. This procedure takes place before the puppies are 3 days old. We take the entire litter to our vet between 6-7 weeks of age for a full examination. We follow our veterinarians advice for de-worming in order to prevent drug-resistant parasites. We will take a stool sample for the lab to test and treat our puppies only as needed. Your puppy will received their first vaccination at this time and will likely need their next booster shortly after you bring them home. Our veterinarian provides a health certificate for every puppy.
Trupanion Go-Home Day Offer
We provide a FREE 30 day trial of Trupanion Pet Insurance for every puppy that leaves our home. We require owners to activate their offer on Go-Home Day. We highly encourage they add the Rehabilitation Rider to their insurance on the renewal day to make sure their puppy is covered for the full treatment of ligament, bone and joint diseases. Trupanion is our preferred insurance for multiple reasons. They have a slightly higher up-front cost, but a much lower premium increase as your pet ages. They also offer lifetime per-incident deductibles as opposed to a yearly deductible. This means if you puppy were to be diagnosed with a disease requiring long-term treatment, once you meet your chosen deductible you are covered for the life of your pet. We recommend all owners continue pet insurance at least until two years of age when hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia can be tested.
Nixie Health Guarantee
Our Puppy Contract has both a short and long-term Health Guarantee. I have included below a sample guarantee for you to view. Your contract may not be identical to the terms listed below. The terms listed on the contract you sign are the terms that will be upheld. At no point will will be held liable for the example contract terms listed below.
State of Health; Short-Term Health Warranty. The puppy/dog (i) was previously examined by a licensed veterinarian and was found to be in good health at that time and (ii) has had the immunizations enumerated in the health records provided to Buyer. Buyer, at its own expense, must have the puppy/dog examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving the puppy/dog (the “Examination Period”) for the guarantee in this section to be valid. If, within the Examination Period, a licensed veterinarian finds the puppy/dog to be unhealthy or unfit for sale, the puppy/dog may be returned to Breeder for a full refund of the Purchase Price. The veterinarian must provide a written statement deeming the puppy/dog “unfit for purchase”, which must be sent to Breeder within 48 hours of the veterinary examination. The foregoing guarantee expressly excludes (x) any health issues caused by Buyer’s ill-treatment, abuse or neglect, (y) any health issues that result from the puppy/dog’s transportation from Breeder to Buyer and (z) all minor illnesses and health issues, including upper respiratory infections, allergic reactions, stress colitis/diarrhea, internal or external parasites or contagious viruses (including canine parvovirus), UTIs, vaginitis or umbilical hernias.
Long-Term Health Warranty. Breeder provides a 3-year warranty from the puppy/dog’s date of birth against any debilitating congenital conditions. For purposes of this section, “debilitating congenital conditions” (i) includes degenerative myelopathy, primary lens luxation, hip dysplasia, luxating patella, and elbow dysplasia and (ii) expressly does not include cancer, allergies, bite malocclusions, cruciate ligament tears, cryptorchidism/monorchidism, and endocrine disorders. In the event the puppy/dog exhibits symptoms of a suspected debilitating congenital condition, Buyer must immediately inform Breeder and supply any requested veterinary records to Breeder. In the case of hip dysplasia, Buyer must submit x-ray images to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and receive a rating of mild or below to qualify for the warranty. In the case of elbow dysplasia, Buyer must submit x-rays images to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and receive an abnormal rating of Grade 1, 2, or 3. Breeder will be given the opportunity to take the puppy/dog to a licensed veterinarian of Breeder’s choice for examination, at the Breeder’s expense. The findings of the Breeder’s licensed veterinarian will supersede the findings of the Buyer’s licensed veterinarian.
